The term ‘dream’ is often used instead of ‘hope’. any peoples talk about their desires being fulfilled as, “It’s everything that I dreamed for!” Some people can recall their dreams after waking better than others. And there are others who when rising from sleep cannot recall anything that is easily describable in words. Yet they go on throughout the next day or more feeling a strange sense of connection in a shared sense of extended experience between the action that they performed in dream and the continuation of same in waking.
Those who paint themselves as experts about such things tell us that the dreamer’s personality provides all the characters and plays all the roles. Some believe that other personages, coincidentally living and sometimes dead, make guest appearances from time to time. It sometimes seems, that those who regularly dream are bringing their rationality to a chaotic avalanche of images that the brain is resorting from times past. A sort of ‘house clean’ of the synapses performed within the subconscious state. The resultant suggestion of an intelligible narrative being nothing more than our waking mind’s efforts to order this visual cacophony. Yet when we see someone recognizable as a regular player in our waking life, perhaps someone desirable that begs an otherwise inappropriate connection that would be rejected, it tells us something significant about ourselves that might otherwise be totally repressed.
The accurate description of what one wants in their ongoing existence is supposedly obtainable from the amalgamation of one’s dreams. If one continues to wander aimlessly though all manner of unfamiliar landscapes then perhaps they are searching for meaning of some kind. If they find themselves naked before other who are clothed then the are ashamed of something. Those who interpret dreams have assigned rather hard to fathom definitions to certain animals. A polar bear’s appearance is a harbinger of deceit. Ants mean that there will be plenty of customers in your business. One might supposed that they could rebuild a rational meaning to the enigmatic struggles of the night by referring to one of these encyclopedias and then easily assay meaning from their otherwise enigmatic ‘hard rock’.
The conspiracy pages on the Internet tell us that elements of our own government can influence our dreams with secret technologies that employ transmission towers and regular wireless telecommunication devices that one might typically find in one’s home or purse. Recently, major motion pictures have plumbed the topic of others consciously meddling in our somnambulant landscapes. When I was still I child I would often look at other children and imagine how they would look when they were old. I wonder if that ability could be adapted to look at someone and determine what they dream at night. Except in our media prone age of terminal rich mass communication, I wonder if they have any spare synapses left to be able to dream at all?
