The current era of public consciousness as reflected by the fifth estate is replete with the constant flow of well publicized martyrs. They come from all walks of life in terms of the strata of society and fulfill necessary political roles to drive the emotion of the general herd in the ‘proper’ direction. If anyone bothers to take note of the sum total of the narratives of these tales a pattern that suggest cross purpose becomes blatantly evident. Take the young inaugural participant of our national regent from the current racial war zone of Chicago who was gunned down in a ghetto area city park and immediately was beautified as a national saint for the banning of all firearms. Some minor controversy reigned as to whether the issue was more properly settled upon the large ‘wild west’ mentality of gang member dominated areas of that city and the reluctance of residents and victims to identify their attackers but of course the official focus was more usefully applicable to the national agenda of slam dunking the second amendment.
Then of course is the latest incident , fresh off the news wire, where a young American state department functionary from an upper class Midwest suburb was killed in a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan along with three others. Someone who was part of a military convoy tasked with a public relations exercise to distribute books and garner a photo op for local embedded politicians. Apparently a young selfless suburbanite out to do good to all the less fortunate peoples of the planet that have been invaded as a part of the Projected For A New American Century. Someone who probably should have remained in the heavily defended compound much like in the “Zero Dark Thirty” fictional film aired of late upon theater screens nationally. A martyr tot he upper class bemoaning the tragedy of empire building and the high cost the the nobler classes of our society. The application of guns that brought the USA to Afghanistan and the present penchant of the man who claims title the title of President to wreak vengeance from the air video game style taking out insurgents and civilians alike with high tech drones in that war ravaged country. One could rhyme, “Guns Bad” with “Guns Good” depending upon just whose hands they are within and which way they are aimed. Of course, it beneficially helped clean up the image of the current Secretary of State, ‘swift boat’ John Kerry, who managed to rub some brass from the incident with a sentence of two of an impromptu eulogy.
One could rail on ceaselessly about what a tragedy that such young lives now wasted have not had the opportunity to come into full flower. But not without also recalling that worldwide so many more at the tender age of nineteen march every day guns at the shoulder in a multiplicity uniforms of every organized nation on earth. ‘WE” know that we are in the right helping ‘nation building’ in that backward Islamic land that has kicked out one invader after another ever since Alexander the Great. Just as ‘we’ know that the present tense of Globalism cannot tolerate an independent population that have the desire and means to demand their own vision life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The official public martyrs may be ceded more coverage but the multitude of ones that will forever remain anonymous will have their way if they have the will to do so.
