It amazes me that in a culture that used to support the notion of compassion before revenge there only exists the notion of the later. If you think this notion is misguided of simply fantasy, check out the ups and downs of Hollywood plots from the beginning of talkies up to the the 1990’s. Some major course shift occurred in the last two decades that changed the official attitude from give em a break to bomb them into extinction. Now some might say it’s those ‘damn towel headed camel jockey’ human smart bombs that cause this shift? But I would have to reply that those ‘friends’ that one chooses to associate with on the playground or world stage, if you will, tend to determine your outlook. Especially when they are using you to complete some of their own hidden agendas.
I don’t think that one has to name names to figure out how this country got egged on into becoming the biggest bully of the neighborhood. The outflow of dollars from our otherwise cash poor society pretty much spell out who is in control of who. It seems that the cruise missile bunker buster business is booming while back home many major cities are bankrupt or near to being so. That kind of situation will get everyone grumbling when all they see at the end of the week is a continued climb in the prices of everyday necessities and a fall in their net earned income. It’s funny how one doesn’t hear much useful detail about the reasons behind that topic over the clamor of televised race baiting and the latest pop stars overt acting out. That gets all sorts of groups crazy for someone in reach to dump their ire on. And like good citizens across the entire planet the ‘we’ that the embedded network media moguls tells us that all are a part of are provided useful scapegoats to pin our aggression upon.
It kinda makes you wonder, wouldn’t be better to pretend to believe in an old time religion Jesus style sense of right and wrong rather than default to the ‘eye for and eye’ old testimony direct from the propaganda organs of the loudest professional of political victims? A little bit of Bhudda would also go a long way! Not those other guys that seem too busy heading up all those corporations that are too busy suckling the wealth out of everything that they touch. Sure it helps to have a nuclear arsenal that is officially off the public docket! Maybe someone should have elected Rodney King as Pope or President while he was still alive? Or make Jimmy Stewart’s, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, character head of our most famous ‘banking and loan’ entity, the Federal Reserve. Then we wouldn’t have to stay up all night wondering if that Nobel Peace Prize was going to be given back or how we would have to figure out how to pay the mortgage.
Well said, Mr. Maughm!
