If one does not command respect from another then one ends up with no possibility of ever receiving same. This means that one must have a sense of self worth that naturally demands it of one’s self equally as much as one might from others. In an age of endless ‘selfies’ where the small table of Roman house gods of old have been replaced by innumerable examples of one’s own image reposited upon their Facebook account, the issue is even more staggering. The enormity of weight afforded to the underclass of the government enfranchised undeserving poisons the well in a manner that requires one to quickly draw a line as far as what is personally tolerable in terms of acceptable behavior from any other. In such a stilted climate where misunderstanding is not only rife but institutional. Though promises are made to be kept, they are simply bartered off with convenient patter of cheerfulness and instead met with feigned ignorance stripping away any thin veneer of respectability by merit of responsible behavior.
Previous generations are ever ripe for scapegoating for being considered the source of all the world’s ills by the reciprocal half this proactive mentality especially if they refuse to be subsumed by it. The notion of customary good manners out of a need to physically survive hostility is currently non-existent. One has to wonder that maybe it would be better for all parties concerned if after a certain age of maturity the elders would conveniently surrender themselves into a state of self-imposed mental exile for the safety of all parties concerned? It is hard to fathom the rationale of the youngers who expect a sense of conventionality to reside as the default viewpoint universally shared. One’s ability to forget becomes staggering as the end of life slowly approaches. Both ‘stilt’ and slight evaporate into the eternal ether of ‘a never was’ or ‘never has been’ in the first place. What one finally must accept about themselves is not fit currency for the rest of the tongues in the world. Thus this power to forget eventually supersedes any requirement to accurately recall. The desire to know is absolutely outdistanced by the fading necessities of an easily made forgettable by circumstance form of identity ceding to just another piece of living breathing incidental furniture.
