The bitterly contested election had been over for a day and the entire country was both exhausted and divided on a scale that was unprecedented as far as anyone living could recall in their experience. Such was the wrath of a majority of the population that they had voted ‘en masse’ to send an unknown quantity in the position of supreme leader. Of course this was unacceptable to the up to that point dominant group who seemed to almost magically hold power through whichever of the two parties that officially held favor. The expectation was that by dawn the day after the smoke had cleared that nation would be no more and in its place would simply be a territory of a larger creation. Some thing amorphous and beholding to no group that anyone whose feet touched the ground could have reckoned to exist. Those who had voted to avoid this premise felt confident that the danger had been abated. And they should have been right. The newly elect candidate now leader-elect gave a warm humble acceptance speech that was remarkable for many in its outward demonstration of grassroots affection. Many went to sleep that night in a peaceful frame of mind for the first time in as long as they could recall.
The next day passed in elation for those voters despite clouds of anger and disappointment voiced and physically enacted. For these actors the shock of lack of their candidate was too great an unwelcome reality to bear. The flames of dissension fanned to an epic peak by the organized embedded official organs of propaganda that had not delivered the proper truth as they had appeared to be in ultimate possession of in times past. The world for these people had been rent apart and many sank into a state of unreasoning anger stoked by fear of the unknown. What would happen when this ‘new broom’ brought their former leaders to task? Grown men cried and women tore at their hair in ongoing displays that were on the border of apoplexy. This constituency seemed will to turn to any power no matter how perverse or to contemplate any act no matter how heinous to bring back their own world that had failed them. The two camps stood on opposite ends of a canyon that only common sense humanity might after considerable effort eventually address.
But then something very odd happened. The victor met with his lame duck predecessor who he had so many times up to that point lambasted and was unexpectedly humble before him. Where one might have thought this new conqueror would have at least shown a somber taciturn demeanor in keeping with his win he instead appeared to be deflated. It was easy for many who supported him both in public and at ground level to suggest that their man was simply exhausted by over a year and a half of exceptionally strenuous campaigning. Some said that his goal realized, he was now overcome by the fact that he had at long last achieved it? Yet in the depths of their hearts this struck an unsettling tone. Too many times they had been played by the twin pillars of supposedly opposite ideologies only to find out along the way in the frost days of this new administration that nothing had changed. But in fact now seemed to degenerate even further. The week wore on in this fog and this inconsistency though not erased seemed to die down in the minds of many in the shadow of more acts of discontent by their rival antagonists.
But then another thing very odd happened. The victor began to soften what had been the iron foundation of his platform. Key points that were offered before the election were now posed in a nebulous state of being subject to negotiation. Perhaps this was the demon reality of compromise that no faction, ‘for or against’, would be overjoyed to recognize? Policies however Draconian once established across a vast nation could not be just tossed over without fully matured new ones fully evolved and fully ready to displace them. This led to the comfortable feelings of elation with many who had voted int he affirmative to proverbially cross themselves in a manner to send away the devil as their ancestors might have in an earlier time of rampant superstition. The losing side had been demonized so thoroughly in the course of the previous months that some rightly or wrongly fully expected that they had sold their souls to some unspecified Beelzebub. What then could explain such enigmatic and unsanctioned events? The growing swirl of discontent on both side grew a little bit from a cold fog into an unsettled breeze,
But then yet another unsettling thing that seemed very odd happened. The leader elect publicly forgave his former opponents very obvious treasonous crimes. Ones that were supposedly ‘nolo contendere’. The very floorboards of his appeal were literally trembling hinting the possibility a collapse sending him in the opine of some intuit he very camp that he had fought so strenuously to except himself from. What in the Hell had happened? Many began to study the man’s demeanor on camera finding that the once confident candidate that had appeared as the most likely messiah to lead them out of perdition was now rapidly losing the luster of a hero. What had transformed him from God to man in so short a span of time? There was no doubt that the great beast of government was so immense that no one could expect that anyone of a divergent perspective could tame it like some St. George did without that mythically unctuous dragon of old. And then there were others who saw something in the look of shell shock of the man that suggested he had come up against some great and terrible undisclosed truth that though long hinted at in more offbeat conspiratorial minded circles was simply to fantastic to give credence to? The subconscious of an equal number postulating if old wives tales of extraterrestrials or other dark dimension of the demiurge were actually more than possible but literally waiting in the wings?
This began to bring to mind to some the possibilities of continuing on with the advantage of presenting scenarios for profitable distribution of tales of the supernatural where evidence of its unscientific resurgence from curious lore into earthshaking reality would send a shiver in the hearts of any audience. One could conjure a vision of those to young to be considered worldly enough almost instantaneously taking on unholy dimensions in exhibiting disturbing powers of levitation and wingless flight chasing their fellow adolescents about causing abject terror at this rude transformation! The power of so many souls in distress becoming a virtual maelstrom of negativity that some of larger universal perspectives considered might be a potential feeding ground for very unwholesome entities approaching Biblical proportions. Perhaps this all was a form of perpetual hubris on the part of the species to think itself so central in an unfathomable immensity of an infinite mystery that diminished all into simple insignificant molecules? The very laws of the larger universe as they could be understood were not leading to the proper mathematical balance of a properly solved equation. Something fundamental was being purposely held back? But what was it? Ruse or some unforeseen discovery of another craft? The fabric of mankind now was served up the the goddess of chaos. A wandering Sophia unable to find escape back to the celestial from an all too material fate.
