“It was nothing but a bunch of highbrow horseshoe. All panache but no cash. All style but in single file. All nonsense without ten cents. Style without substance, just nonsense! Highbrow horseshoe. I can see the clouds being swept away.” – SONG ONE
“Had she sung the song I’d sing, the same, that mournful day? That mournful day I’d put away for another one to play. Her name was Brown, she’d been around. She’s known the mortal way! But on this ground where we had both had found each other having run away. So this Brown of Barry town so often known contrary, had taken the midtown ferry. From this to that, but left it flat to see the country merry.” – SONG TWO
He noticed that many women could only love within a narrow confine of a setting that they chose. A time and place that was adequate to supporting the illusion of the setting that they had in mind. To them a gun might be as useful as a hammer to beat out the brains and hear the skull crack then watch the contents come leaking out. While knowing all the time that they were the last image that their intended had been allowed to enjoy. And then, having sent them off on that immortal journey into oblivion, they comforted themselves with the knowledge that their victim had that last moment on their mind. How odd to think that this world is freely populated with such types? Those of the fair sex that really had no care or regard, but only wanted to recite some sacred words suggesting a perpetuity of attachment and devotion. It was a mean universe after all! And we were all set within these rung like opponents in a Colosseum to tear each other apart. So that by the end of human existence we would be reduced back to those basic raw elements that we had come from.
When you first develop a sense of excitement for someone you find an unbounded enthusiasm that at the slightest mention of them. That point where this excitement takes over the brain ceases to function. The rational, that is! He had started up another obsession with another one. A tow headed number with bouncy hair and kind of on the slender side. And found in the course of an initial experience that there was plenty of attraction going on there. For the both of them, or so he thought. And so he followed her along in some sort of cinematic movie way. At a convenient distance, he would say, to keep her in sight but not too close. He know where she was going, towards the end of the line. He got there a little ahead and from the stairs climbed down further onto the empty tracks beside the platform on the wayward side to pass along over to the other side. She was waiting there with a couple of other passengers as he peeked over the parapet and in a witty sounding tone said , “Have you seen anybody interesting lately?” And much to his chagrin, receiving no reaction. He couldn’t tell if he had run into a double in her appearance? Or, if I was just being played in return for his having just played a little bit of a romantic prank? Her revenge being visited upon him for enacting it. He thin wishing to sometimes have a dream come true now and again that turned out to be bells, whistles, and fireworks of a more enjoyable kind.
He was walking through the park towards the elevated train and upon arriving finding all the entrance doors firmly shut as if they were part of a newly devised electronically controlled city wide system. At first just one than going to another and so forth finding no possibility of finding an entrance to the platform above. He went back home and sat down with a friend, a young lady, and found the sound was off on the TV. A news report blaring in bold type that this same phenomena was occurring throughout the entire city. The entire system of transportation having been totally shut down as a result. Then a new screen coming on declaring a national emergence followed up with subsequent footage of a rocket launcher sending missile high into the sky. This electrifying him to scramble towards the TV to try to get the sound on. Despite the effort it being plainly clear that the country was now at war. Yet unlike the many previous incidents from eras long past, this time we as a country were not going to survive it.
The shopping center was vertical. Embedded within the rock face of a cliff. He was sitting just below facing it trying how to figure out how he was going to climb up to each store. His elderly father suddenly arrived to tell him how his equally aged mother was no longer speaking intelligibly. Though it was evident that he was equally afflicted. His first reaction to his father’s entreaty was to suggest a stroke. But his father became very aggravated and argumentative at the notion responding that the son did not understand and that he had to tell her by repeating stuff again and again. The young man musing that both apparently were in the same boat but never daring to say that aloud. The were a variety of people from various French origins handing out pairs of flyers to those entering their district warning random foreigners of the danger of trying to live there.
